From Harpist to Contractor...Originally from Kansas, harpist Jill Wiebe completed her bachelor's degree at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where she was awarded a full scholarship. Wiebe was also awarded a full scholarship at the Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music where she completed her master's studies while serving as the harp teaching assistant. Wiebe has enjoyed a freelance career that has taken her around the world. She has performed across America with the likes of the Kentucky Symphony, the Ohio Light Opera, and recording artist Josh Grobin. Internationally, she has been featured center-stage in England's largest Christmas spectacular, has presented solo concerts on the luxury British ocean-liner Queen Mary 2, and has performed in an original show with alumni of London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Wiebe has been heard on national radio and has appeared on nationally released recordings. She has been resident harpist for the famed World Cruise on board the Queen Elizabeth 2, and has performed during numerous celebrity and high profile events that have been covered by national television programs including Entertainment Tonight, The Today Show, and 60 Minutes. Wiebe has recently performed with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, The Tulsa Opera, and the Tulsa Ballet. Wiebe's primary interest lies in promoting the harp and she has developed several presentations that combine lecture and performance. She presented these programs across the country for groups ranging from elementary school children to highly musically educated adults. Her goal is to make the harp more accessible to the public by increasing understanding and awareness of the instrument. Elizabeth M. Alpert Owner and operator of Musicians Unlimited, Mrs. Alpert began her harp studies in 1979 in Tulsa. At the University of Arkansas she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Music in vocal performance with a minor in harp. She did her graduate studies at the Conservatorium van Maastricht in the Netherlands. While at the University of Arkansas, she performed as harpist with the Northwest Arkansas Symphony. During her stay in the Netherlands, she served on the faculty of the Tilburgse and Deurne/Asten Muziek Schools as the harp instructor. She taught voice at Oral Roberts University from 1995-2001 and taught music at the NSU Muskogee Campus. She has performed for Mikhail Baryshnikov and for Roy Clark. She was the guest performer with the Claremore Community Chorus for Britton’s Ceremony of Carols in 2002. She continues to perform with various orchestras and ensembles such as the Bartlesville Symphony, the Enid Symphony Orchestra and the Anchorage Opera Orchestra. |
